  3. Submit a booking request form with chosen dates.
  4. GEC will send you a contract and invoice shortly.
  5. Send a signed contract and pay your deposit to GEC.
  6. Your reservation is confirmed!

1.      What is included in the rent?

All GEC residences are fully furnished. Our rates include all the water and electricity costs, Wi-Fi, and weekly housekeeping service. Students only need to supply their food and toiletries.

2.      Can I bring my car?

Yes, we do have some parking spots. Please inquire at info@studenthotel.ca or call 604-669-6686 for the parking fee and also availability.

3. Can I contact my roommate (s) before moving in?

Yes, GEC representative can help you connect with your future roommate.

Please note that your roommate might change at the last minute for some reasons.

4.      Are sublets allowed?

No, we do not allow any sublets.

5.      Are pets allowed?

No, we do not allow any pets.

6.      Is there a meal plan available?

No, we do not offer any meal plans, but there are many meal options near residence.

7.      Do I have to bring my own kitchen supplies for cooking?

GEC VIVA and GEC Burnaby Heights

Each shared unit is equipped with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, oven, dishwasher and microwave) for unit-mates to share. You will need to supply your own cleaning supplies and paper towels.

GEC Granville

There is a common kitchen equipped with 2 full kitchens (fridge, stove, oven, dishwasher and microwave) for all residents to share at GEC Granville.

8.      Are there options if I prefer to live somewhere else?

We have 2 downtown locations and also one location in North Burnaby. Please consult with a residence manager at your residence.

9.      What if residence property needs maintenance?

Use the Online Service request to send a maintenance request. Do not attempt to fix residence property on your own.

10. Does GEC cover damages to my personal property?

No. GEC’s insurance coverage is for the physical structure of buildings (walls, roof, flooring) and components (fridges, stoves) only. GEC is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property, regardless of the cause. We recommend that all personal belongings be covered by private insurance.

11. Can I move to a different room?

If students who would like to move rooms, transfers are offered based on availability. Before requesting, we encourage you to speak with a residence manager, who would be happy to discuss your concerns and help you find a solution and access resources. There is a $50 fee for room transfers.

12. What if there is a conflict within residence?

All residents must adhere to GEC standards. Conflicts or breaches of GEC standards are investigated by GEC staff.

13. Where can I dispose of garbage and unwanted items when I move out?

All residents must move out sustainably. Each residence has a sorting area for food scraps, donations, recyclables and trash.

GEC VIVA and GEC Granville

  • The written notice has to be provided when cancelling. When visas are denied, the official refusal letter from CIC has to be submitted to get a full refund more than 7 days prior to check-in date.
  • Tax (16%) wsill be charged for stays less than a month and a FULL payment will be required upon check-in.
  • Tenants are required to pay rent for the duration in a contract.

We accept most major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) through an online payment website called Rent Moola. We also accept cheque, and wire transfer payments. Service fees will be added to certain transactions (credit card processing fee and a $15 wire transfer handling charge).

We only accept credit cards (Rent Moola) for deposit payments.

Rental charges vary depending on your booking period and the location you are staying in. To obtain an accurate quote for a specific period in a specific location, please inquire at info@studenthotel.ca or call 604-669-6686.

Any student who is attending school or an education institution in Greater Vancouver and 18 years old or older is eligible to live.

If you’re not a student, you can only stay at GEC Granville as a hotel guest.

New students usually apply to live in residence about 3 months in advance. We recommend to book early since only limited beds are available.
